Privacy Policy

RedLite GreenLite ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your authentication credentials (Apple ID, Google account, or phone number) and optional display name. This is stored securely in Firebase Authentication.

Availability status: Your current status (Available, Busy, or Do Not Disturb), optional status message, and the time it was set. This is stored in our database so your friends can see it.

Contacts (with your permission): If you choose to use the "Find Friends" feature, we access your contacts' names and phone numbers from your device. Phone numbers are sent securely over an encrypted connection (TLS/HTTPS) to our server to check for matches against existing users. Phone numbers are used solely for matching and are not stored on our servers after the comparison is complete. Contact names are displayed locally on your device and are never uploaded. You choose which matched contacts to add as friends — nothing is added automatically.

Calendar events (with your permission): If you enable calendar sync, we detect whether you currently have an event scheduled. We never access, store, or transmit event titles, descriptions, attendees, or locations. Only the presence of an event is used to update your status.

Push notification token: If you enable notifications, we store your device's push notification token to send you alerts when friends change their status.

Usage data: We record your last active timestamp to determine if your status may be stale. We do not use analytics SDKs or third-party tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the core service: displaying your availability status to your friends and theirs to you
• To match your contacts with existing users so you can find friends on the app
• To send push notifications about friend status changes
• To automatically update your status from your calendar (if enabled)
• To detect stale statuses and show appropriate indicators to your friends

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

We use Google Firebase as our backend infrastructure provider (authentication, database, cloud functions, and hosting). Firebase processes data on our behalf under Google's data processing terms. No other third parties receive your data.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Firebase (Google Cloud) with encryption at rest and in transit. Authentication credentials are managed by Firebase Auth using industry-standard security practices, including iOS Keychain and Android Keystore for local credential storage.

5. Data Retention

• Account data and status: Retained as long as your account is active.
• Contact phone numbers: Not retained. Used only during real-time matching and immediately discarded.
• Calendar data: Not retained. Only the current event presence is checked in real-time.
• Push tokens: Retained while notifications are enabled. Removed when disabled or on account deletion.

6. Your Rights and Choices

• Deny contacts access: The app works fully without contacts permission. You can skip the "Find Friends" feature entirely.
• Deny calendar access: Calendar sync is optional and can be toggled on or off at any time in Settings.
• Deny notification access: You can disable push notifications in the app or in your device settings.
• Revoke permissions: You can revoke contacts, calendar, or notification access at any time in your device's Settings app.
• Delete your account: You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app (Settings > Delete Account). This permanently removes your profile, status, friend connections, and push token from our servers.
• Data export: To request a copy of your data, contact us at the email below.

7. Children's Privacy

RedLite GreenLite is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
